Progressive Memory Care

History

Hale Kūʻike’s president, David Fitzgerald, worked for many years as a nursing home administrator prior to opening Hale Kūʻike. During that time he traveled extensively throughout Scandinavia to study the most progressive care facilities in the world. David’s calling is to serve our kupuna with the greatest needs. Hale Kūʻike is locally owned and David is involved full time in managing the operations.

Highly Trained, Caring Staff

Hale Kūʻike’s staff training is based on Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care® model. Each staff member is trained to understand the experience of memory loss and to focus on residents’ strengths. Strong connections with residents are made by learning their life story and applying the qualities of friendship.

Dorothy Colby, Administrator of the town location, is a dementia educator Certified Positive Approach to Care® Trainer and provides hands-on dementia education classes for all Hale Kūʻike staff and interested families.

“Hale Kūʻike is top notch. Their attentive expert care, progressive programs, and genuine regard for each resident have contributed to my mother’s daily life in immeasurable, positive ways. Two short months have shown a surge in confidence and restored well-being. Through the staff’s continual encouragement and support, my mother has formed several new relationships, delights in numerous activities, and often lends a helping hand with small, household tasks. This has given her renewed purpose and a sense of accomplishment. Add a comfortable, well-designed living space, along with fine, home-cooked meals and Hale Kūʻike is everything I’d hoped for and more.”
