Innovative Design

What is the ideal chair height for an elderly person with mobility issues? What is the appropriate brightness of light for someone who is cognitively impaired? Why are there antiques throughout the home?

Every design element at Hale Kūʻike has a purpose. Best practices in design philosophies from Scandinavia and around the world have been researched, tested and incorporated to create an environment that is healthy, calming and supportive.

Antiques and old photographs evoke a feeling of familiarity. Lighting has been optimized for older eyes. Tables and chairs are ergonomically correct for the elderly. Original oil paintings from local artist, Kelley Fitzgerald, provide a welcoming atmosphere. And the entire floor plan has been laid out to encourage social interaction, independence and movement.
